A modified epoxy resin provided with improved flexibility and curing properties is prepared by subjecting a bisphenol type epoxy resin (a) to steps (i) and (ii): (i) the step wherein epoxy group is reacted with a primary amine (b), and (ii) the step wherein secondary hydroxyl group is at least partly esterfied through a reaction with a lactone.
