ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Mixed ester products obtained by treatment of a triglyceride derived predominantly from C12 to C18 fatty acids under transesterification conditions with a polyoxyalkylene glycol having an average molecular weight less than 2000 and a high molecular weight aliphatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid containing 18 to 54 carbon atoms, e.g., polymer acids, are useful metal working fluids. The modified triglycerides exhibit enhanced thermal stability and can be used either in neat form or in solution. They are readily compatible with water to provide stable aqueous emulsions and dispersions having superior lubrication properties. When coated into aluminum or aluminum alloys, they provide a surface which is essentially free of surface stain and is resistant to subsequent water stain.
