ABSTRACT A package is formed by loading a bag, preferably of heat-shrinkable material, in a vacuum chamber and operating hot air fans to circulate air over heaters within the closed chamber to apply heat which causes air trapped within the container, closed by holding means, to expand and balloon up the container away from contact with the product so that further forced convection heat is more readily able to shrink back the bag into contact with the product. The closed, ballooned bag is then ruptured, the chamber evacuated, and the bag finally sealed before re-pressurisation and opening of the chamber.
