A modular communication system (21), particularly for interior space-dividing wall panels (12) which are serially-connected together to define a plurality of adjacent workstations (16). The modular communication system (21) comprises a plurality of elongate main distribution modules (22) which serially couple together and extend throughout a raceway (14) defined by said panels (12), each said main distribution modules (22) including an elongate intermediate cable (31) having a connector unit (32) at each end thereof, said cable defining a plurality of multi-conductor telecommunication links extending longitudinally therethrough and terminating at the connector units (32). The interconnected main distribution modules (22) define one or more access ports which each access at least one, but less than all, of the telecommunication links which extend throughout the serially-connected distribution modules (22). A tap-off module (23) having a tap-off part engageable with one of the access ports for connection with the telecommunication link has a plurality of contacts which are engageable with contacts provided at the access port and a cable connected to the contacts of the tap-off part and projecting away therefrom and being provided with an outlet connected to the other end thereof.

Ce système (21) comprend une pluralité de modules de distribution principaux (22) de forme allongée qui sont couplés ensemble en série et s'étendent le long d'un passage de câbles (14) défini par ces panneaux (12). Chacun de ces modules de distribution principaux (22) comporte un câble intermédiaire allongé (31) ayant une unité connectrice (32) à chacune de ses extrémités, ce câble définissant plusieurs liaisons de télécommunications multiconducteurs s'étendant longitudinalement à travers lui et se terminant au niveau des unités connectrices (32). Les modules de distribution principaux interconnectés (22) définissent une ou plusieurs portes d'accès, qui permettent chacune d'accéder à au moins une, mais pas à la totalité, des liaisons de télécommunications, qui s'étendent le long des modules de distribution (22) connectés en série. Un module de branchement (23) ayant une partie de branchement venant coopérer avec l'une des portes d'accès pour établir une connexion avec la liaison de télécommunications possède plusieurs contacts qui viennent coopérer avec des contacts situés au niveau de la porte d'accès et un câble connecté aux contacts de la partie de branchement et s'étendant dans la direction opposée par rapport à eux et pourvu d'une sortie connectée à son autre extrémité.
