A modular die for forming a pre-heated metal blank has two opposing bed plates capable of moving between open and closed positions. The bed plates are adapted to support a plurality of die forming blocks that can be spaced about the bed plate to support a pre-heated metal blank therebetween when the bed plates are in a closed position. The die forming blocks have an outer surface that shapes the pre-heated metal blank. The die forming blocks are spaced apart from each other to define cooling passageways therebetween in heat transfer relation with the die blocks and in heat transfer relation with exposed portions of the metal blank.
