A modular energy absorber (10) that is tunable. It comprises one or more energy absorbing modules (12). The energy absorbing modules have means for coordinating energy absorbing units 16 of the one or more modules. The means (14) for coordinating position and support the units in relation to each other before, during and after relative motion between an incident object and the energy absorber. A crushable member (16) is provided that has an upper perimeter (22), a lower perimeter (24) and an intermediate wall (26) extending therebetween. It also includes a number (m) of breaches defined therein before impact. A method for configuring the modular energy absorber is also disclosed.
L'invention porte sur un absorbeur d'énergie modulaire (10) qui est accordable et qui comprend un ou plusieurs modules d'absorption d'énergie (12). Les modules d'absorption d'énergie précités comprennent des moyens (14) qui permettent de coordonner des unités d'absorption d'énergie (16) des modules d'absorption d'énergie, lesquels moyens (14) positionnent et soutiennent les unités précitées les unes par rapport aux autres avant, pendant et après le mouvement relatif entre un objet incident et l'absorbeur d'énergie. L'invention comprend également un élément écrasable (16) comportant un périmètre supérieur (22), un périmètre inférieur (24) et une paroi intermédiaire (26) s'étendant entre ces derniers, un nombre d'entailles (m) étant définies dans ladite paroi avant l'impact. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de configuration de l'absorbeur d'énergie modulaire
