2124935 9311055 PCTABS00022 A modular supporting structure for positioning and supporting a product within an outer packing container, is disclosed. The product to be supported has predetermined external dimensions, and the outer packing container forms a chamber of predetermined internal dimensions. The supporting structure is formed from a plurality of modules, each module in turn comprising an air bladder for receiving and retaining air. The air bladder has a first compartment and a second compartment that are in fluid communication one with the other via a restrictive air passage that limits the rate of flow of air therebetween, thus providing physical damping for the product being supported by the modules. There is a connecting portion in the form of a flange, which is attached to the air bladder, that allows the modules to be interconnected one with another. When the modules are connected one to another, a product receiving socket is formed. The product receiving socket is shaped to fit the predetermined external dimensions of the product.
