A modular power supply (2) suitable for application as an uninterruptable power supply for use with electrical equipment such as computers. A module (6) of the power supply may include a battery (32), a charging circuit for the battery (34), a power supply circuit coupled to mains electricity and the battery (30, 36, 40), and a control circuit (38) for selectively providing power to the electrical equipment (12) by way of the power supply circuit from either mains electricity (10) or the battery as source. The module is also provided with a coupling which is adapted to connect the module in parallel with at least one other module. A housing may be provided to receive a plurality of modules, which are connected together in parallel by way of plugs and sockets when received in the housing. The plugs and sockets and the control circuit may be adapted to enable "hot-swapping" of the modules from the housing. The modules may also be interconnected in the housing by way of a control line (20) which enables communication of the modules for making a majority rules decision concerning the provision of power from the mains or battery on the basis of fluctuations in the electrical mains supply.
Cette invention concerne un bloc d'alimentation modulaire (2) qui peut servir de bloc d'alimentation ininterrompue en courant et est destiné aux équipements électriques du type ordinateurs. Un module (6) dudit bloc d'alimentation peut comporter une batterie (32), un circuit de charge associé à ladite batterie (34), un circuit d'alimentation en courant couplé au secteur et à la batterie (30, 36, 40), et un circuit de commande (38) permettant d'alimenter sélectivement en courant un équipement électrique (12) au moyen du circuit d'alimentation en courant, soit à partir du secteur (10), soit à partir de la batterie. Ledit module dispose également d'un couplage qui est conçu pour assurer sa connexion en parallèle avec au moins un autre module. On peut disposer d'un boîtier conçu pour loger une pluralité de modules qui, lorsqu'ils sont installés à l'intérieur du boîtier, sont reliés entre eux de manière parallèle au moyen de fiches mâles et de fiches femelles. Ces fiches mâles et femelles et le circuit de commande peuvent être conçus pour permettre un rapide changement "à chaud" des modules du boîtier. Les modules peuvent également être interconnectés à l'intérieur du boîtier au moyen d'une ligne de commande (20) qui assure la communication entre les modules en vue d'une prise de décision, selon les règles de majorité simple, relative à l'alimentation à partir du secteur ou de la batterie et fondée sur les fluctuations de l'alimentation électrique en provenance du secteur.
