A modular printer having a media take-up assembly, a support block assembly, a printhead assembly, a stepper motor assembly and a display assembly is provided. A support body or housing having a plurality of recesses formed on an internal wall of the modular printer is also provided. Each of the recesses is configured to receive and align one of the modular printer assemblies with the other modular printer assemblies. Each of the assemblies is configured as a module which can be easily accessed and quickly secured to or detached from the support body. The support body is adapted to receive assembly modules for both thermal ink printers and ribbon ink printers such that the modular printer can be easily converted from one to the other.

L'invention concerne une imprimante modulaire (40) ayant un ensemble cylindre enrouleur (12), un ensemble bloc de support (16), un ensemble tête d'impression (18), un ensemble moteur pas à pas (20) et un ensemble affichage (32). Elle concerne également un boîtier de réception (34) comportant plusieurs évidements formés sur une paroi interne de l'imprimante modulaire. Chaque évidement est conçu pour recevoir et aligner les ensembles de l'imprimante modulaire les uns avec les autres. Chaque ensemble est conçu en tant que module d'accès facile que l'on peut rapidement fixer au boîtier de réception ou l'en détacher. Ledit boîtier (34) est destiné à recevoir des modules de montage pour imprimantes à encre thermiques et à ruban, l'imprimante modulaire permettant ainsi de passer de l'un à l'autre type d'imprimante.
