A modular solar power system having a cylindrical double-walled, double open- ended vacuum tube, featuring an internal glass tube being positioned within an external glass tube. Each end of the internal glass tube is sealed with the corresponding end of the external glass tube to provide an airtight space between the internal and external glass tubes. Additionally, the exterior surface of the internal glass tube is coated with a light absorbing material. The air between internal and external glass tubes is evacuated to provide a vacuum between internal and external glass tubes to impede or substantially impede the transfer of heat between the internal and external glass tubes. One or more support rings may be positioned along the length of the tubes, the outer surface of the support ring engaging and supporting the inner surface of the external tube and the inner surface of the support ring engaging and supporting the outer surface of the internal tube to thereby reduce the distorting effect of the vacuum on the tubes. In one embodiment, the rings have holes therethrough to permit a pressure/vacuum balance on either side of the ring.
