ABSTRACT In a modular system for constructing devices, there is a base part 1 that extends in the X-Y plane and at least clamping part 2 that can be attached to said base part in various selectable positions. The base part 1 comprises elevations 6 that are so arranged to be regularly spaced in a grid pattern in the X-Y planes, each having reference surfaces 6a; 6b that are oriented in the Z-direction. Optionally, connecting elements extend between the elevations 6 and the clamping part 2. The distance between reference surfaces of adjacent elevations and the spacing of the reference surfaces on an elevation is either equal or the distance between reference surfaces of adjacent elevations is an even-numbered multiple of the spacing of the reference surfaces on the same elevation. This results in a high degree of flexibility of the modular system, at the same time providing possibilities for simple and reliable clamping.
