- 10 - MODULAR TELPHONE JACK Abstract of the Disclosure The subject matter is a modular telephone jack which cooperates with specially arranged plugs to selectively activate different options upon insertion of different plugs. The art includes a modular jack having planar contact springs and a pair of switch contact springs located in the outermost part of the same plane. The outermost contact springs are controlled depending on the width of an inserted plug. The present subject matter provides the ability to control the activation of additional options with the plugs. A second pair of switch contact springs are located outside the plane of and ahead of the above contact and switch springs in the direction of plug insertion, but within a width defined by the boundary of the plane. The second switch contact spring pair is controlled by the presence, or absence, of a protrusion on a sidewall of a plug, in addition to the independent control of the first contact spring pair by the width of the plug.
