A modular transaction printer for generating financial transaction records such as gaming vouchers and coupons. The printer uses self-contained expansion modules that plug into a printer port for easy in-field upgradeability. The printer includes a mechanical package to allow modules to be inserted from the printer exterior, an electrical interface to allow modules to communicate with the printer electronics, and a latching mechanism to secure the modules to the printer for easy connect and disconnect from the printer body. Each module includes dynamic memory, non- volatile memory, processor circuitry necessary to accomplish a port or an interface with an outside host device, and a standard bus style interface method for interchangeable expansion modules. By using interchangeable expansion modules, a printer can be configured as a base or basic model. Then depending on configuration requirements, the interchangeable modules can be securely attached to the printer.
L'invention concerne une imprimante de transactions modulaire destinée à la génération d'enregistrements de transactions financières tels que des coupons de jeu et d'autres bons. L'imprimante utilise des modules d'extension indépendants qui se branchent sur un port d'imprimante pour une évolutivité aisée sur site. L'imprimante comporte un bloc mécanique qui permet aux modules d'être insérés à partir de l'extérieur de l'imprimante, une interface électrique qui permet aux modules de communiquer avec les éléments électroniques de l'imprimante et un mécanisme de verrouillage qui permet d'attacher les modules à l'imprimante pour une connexion et une déconnexion aisées du corps de l'imprimante. Chaque module est muni d'une mémoire dynamique, d'une mémoire non volatile, de circuits de processeur nécessaires pour mettre en uvre un port ou une interface avec un dispositif hôte extérieur et un procédé d'interfaçage de type bus standard pour des modules d'extension interchangeables. En utilisant des modules d'extension interchangeables, il est possible de configurer une imprimante en tant que base ou modèle de base. Puis, en fonction des conditions de configuration, les modules interchangeables peuvent être attachés de manière sécurisée à l'imprimante.
