This invention relates generally to a method for modulating the Hypothalamic- Pituitary-Adrenal Adipose Axis (HPAAA) in a mammal in need of such treatment by administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a leptin receptor ligand. More specifically, this invention relates to the use of leptin receptor agonists to treat disorders of the HPAAA, including the hyperglucocorticoidemia associated with Cushing's Syndrome, fasting, or otherwise-induced stress in obese or lean mammals in need of such treatment. This invention also relates to the use of leptin receptor antagonists, or specific anti-leptin antibodies, to treat the hypoglucocorticoidemia associated with autoimmune or inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de modulation de l'axe hypotalamo-hypophyso-adrénalo-adipeux d'un mammifère justifiant d'un tel traitement, lequel procédé consiste en une administration en quantité suffisante d'un ligand du récepteur de la leptine. En l'occurrence, l'invention se rapporte à l'utilisation d'antagonistes du récepteur de la leptine pour traiter des troubles de l'axe hypotalamo-hypophyso-adrénalo-adipeux, y compris l'hyperglucocorticoïdémie associée au syndrome de Cushing, le jeûne ou de stress autrement induits chez les mammifères obèses ou maigres nécessitant un tel traitement. Cette invention concerne également l'utilisation d'antagonistes du récepteur de la leptine, ou d'anticorps spécifiquement anti-leptine, pour le traitement de l'hyperglucocorticoïdémie associée à des états auto-immunes ou inflammatoires tels que l'arthrite rhumatoïde.
