ABSTRACT A modulator for amplitude modulation of a first input signal with a second input signal, each input signal having positive and negative excursions relative to a re- ference level. The input signals are suppressed during the modulator process and only the product terms are obtained as an output signal. The modulator comprises a first and a second converter circuit for converting the first and second input signals respectively. Each converter converts its input signal into a first and second signal current of one polarity relative to a datum level, the value of the first signal current corresponding to that of the input signal for its positive ex- cursions and being equal to the datum level for the inputs sig- nal's negative excursion. The valve of the second signal cur- rent from each converter corresponds to that of its input sig- nal for the negative excursions and equal to the datum level for the input signal's positive excursions. A multiplying device, with first and second outputs, is connected to the converter circuits and supplies at its first output the sum of products of the first signal currents from each converter and of the second signal currents from each converter. This multiplying device supplies, at its second output, the sum of the products of the first signal current from the first con- verter and the second signal current from the second converter and of the second signal current from the first converter and first signal current from the second converter. A difference producer, connected to the outputs of the multiplying device, produces the desired modulated output signal.
