A mold includes a generally cylindrical peripheral wall having an open top at one end and a closed base at the other end. On the base is provided a column member which extends upwardly inside the peripheral wall to a closed top at a height the same as that of the peripheral wall. The column member is tapered and flares outwardly toward the base. The mold is then filled with water which is allowed to freeze to form an ice body inside the mold. The ice body is turned out of the mold and placed over a burning candle with a flared end of the hollow tube formed by the column member engaged over the candle allowing the candle to burn inside the tube protected from the wind.
