Abstract There is disclosed a polyester resin having an end carboxyl group concentration of not higher than 40 milliequivalent/kg (meq/kg) and a high heat stability in melting and forming substantially no thermal decomposition product in melt molding, which is produced mainly from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative (a) and an aliphatic dihydroxy compound (b) having 2 to 8 carbon atoms by a process wherein an ester-forming compound (c) of the following general formula (I) is copolymerized therewith in such an amount that the introduction rate thereof will be 0.01 to 7 molar % based on the aromatic dicarboxylic acid: HO-R-O-A-O-R-OH (I) wherein A represents a divalent organic radical having at least one aromatic ring, R represents a divalent organic radical selected from among aliphatic hydrocarbon groups and polyoxyalkylene groups each having 2 to a carbon atoms. The resin is suitable to mold.
