A payout tube for insertion in a radial hole of a wound coil of filamentary material and extending from the inner to the outer wind of the wound coil. There is an entrance opening and an exit opening in coaxial and spaced relationship with each other. The size of the openings is greater than the normal openings for the entrance an exit openings as determined by the REELEX method of winding for the filamentary material. A flange member surrounds the exit opening for engaging a panel of a container retaining the wound coil.
