ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A molded iron catalyst material is useful for the hydrogena- tion of nitriles to amines owing to its indentation hardness of from 850 to 1500 kp/cm2. The material contains metallic iron particles, obtained from iron oxide particles by contact with hydrogen at less than 500°C, and a lubricant. Its preparation involves reduction, passivation and pressing of the iron particles followed by activation of the resulting moldings.
