Molded respirators containing an air-permeable, sorbent-particle-containing layer between air-permeable particle-retaining layers. The particle-containing layer is stretchable during shaping without tearing or significant loss of particles. At least some of the fibers in the particle-containing layer are sufficiently tacky after being formed by themselves into a particle-free web and cooled to room temperature so that the web will adhere to itself. The respirators can be molded from flat webs without the need to fabricate the particle-containing layer into a shaped preform.
L'invention concerne des appareils respiratoires contenant une couche renfermant des particules absorbantes perméables à l'air, ladite couche se trouvant entre les couches de retenue de particules perméables à l'air. On peut étirer la couche contenant des particules pendant le façonnage sans pour autant déchirer ou perdre beaucoup de particules. Après que des fibres ont été transformées en bande sans particules et refroidies à une température ambiante, au moins plusieurs des fibres dans la couche contenant des particules collent suffisamment pour que la bande adhère à elle-même. On peut mouler des appareils respiratoires à partir de bandes plates sans avoir à fabriquer une couche contenant des particules présentant une préforme façonnée.
