Disclosed is a metal-molding system comprising a valve in a melt-carrying passageway, wherein the valve comprises a melt-receiving feature such as a plurality of grooves. Metallic molding material solidifies between the melt-receiving feature and the melt-carrying passageway. The valve remains operational after the material solidification.
