Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a molten metal partial plating method, and apparatus therefor in which a plating preventing film is formed on an area of the substrate material not to be plated, and the material is then entirely immersed in a plating bath of a molten metal. The primary object of the present invention is to provide a plating preventing film having an excellent plating preventing effect on the area not to be plated, of the substrate material. The plating preventing film should have good adherence, and should be capable of being produced with ease at a low cost, so that a steel plate having one surface completely plated can be obtained very easily. This object can be attained by forming the plating preventing film of carbon, or mainly of carbon and containing an inorganic compound which does not decompose at the plating temperature and which does not react with the plating bath. The present invention is effectively applied to one surface plating with zinc, aluminum, tin or the like.
