ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An oil-soluble molybdenum complex of an ashless oxazoline dispersant, preferably an oil-soluble reaction product of a molybdenum compound, such as molybdic oxide, with 0,5 to 1 molar equivalent of a hydrocarbon-substituted monoxazoline and bisoxazolines obtained as a reaction product of hydrocarbyl- substituted dicarboxylic acid or eater or anhydride, for example, polyisobuten- ylsuccinic anhydride with from 1 to 2 molar equivalents of a 2,2-disubstituted- 1-amino-1-alkanols, such as tris-(hydroxymethylamino)methane (THAM), is a useful additive to a lubricating oil since both the sludge dispersant and antifriction properties of said oil are enhanced. The oxazolines include lactone oxazolines.
