Abstract The monitoring device contains two sensor hoses (4, 12), which are laid on both sides of a sealing film (2) parallel to each other. They can be flowed through by a transport medium (m) in the same or in the opposite direction. With the aid of at least one detector (34), first and second indicator signals (c1, c2) are deter- mined for indicating a pollutant in the transport medium and thus in the relevant sensor hose (4, 12). These signals (c1, c2) are logically combined with each other, according to location, preferably subtracted from each other. The resulting signal (.DELTA.c) distinctly shows an extreme value (52) in its curve as soon as a leak (40) is present in the sealing film (2). The position (s0) can be determined easily from the last-named diagram. FIG. 4
