The present invention provides methods for modifying lignan content in plants by transforming plants with vectors containing a DNA sequence encoding one or more proteins integral to the phenylpropanoid pathway leading to G-lignan formation. Such coding sequences are expressed under the control of a seed tissue specific or seed developmental stage specific promoter. Expression of the DNA sequence results in a modification of the absolute and/or relative level of an intermediate metabolite leading to the production of G-lignans (e.g.), secoisolariciresinol diglucoside or matairesinol).

L'invention concerne des procédés de modification du contenu en lignane dans des plantes par transformation de ces dernières avec des vecteurs contenant une séquence d'ADN codant pour une ou plusieurs protéines, protéines qui font partie intégrale de la voie du phénylpropanoïde conduisant à la formation de G-lignane. Ces séquences codantes sont exprimées sous contrôle d'un promoteur spécifique à un tissu de graine ou à une étape de développement de la graine. L'expression de la séquence d'ADN produit une modification du niveau absolu et/ou relatif d'un métabolite intermédiaire conduisant à la production de G-lignane (p. ex. secoisolariciresinol diglucoside ou matairesinol).
