MONOESTERS DERIVED FROM ETHOXYLATED HIGHER ALCOHOLS AND THIODISUCCINIC ACID AS DETERGENT BUILDERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New monoesters derived from ethoxylated higher alcohols and thiodisuccinic acid having the formula: Image in which R is a hydrocarbon having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms, X is sulfur, sulfinyl, or sulfonyl, M is hydrogen, a monovalent metal, ammonium or a salt of ammonium, and n is an integer ranging from 2 to 15, are useful as de- tergent builders and are particularly suitable for hard water detergents. In preferred esters, R is alkyl or alkenyl, X is sulfur, M is hydrogen or sodium, and n is an integer ranging from 3 to 7. -1-
