ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Acrylate esters having the general formula: (I) Image wherein R? is hydrogen or a methyl group, R? is an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R? is an acyl, sulfate or hydrochloric group, Ar is p-phenylene, and x is 1 to 4, are prepared by blocking the free primary amino group of an aromatic diamine having the general formula: (II) Image in which R? , Ar and x are as defined in claim 1, to form an -NH-R? group in which R? is An acyl, sulfate or hydrochloride group, and reacting the resulting blocked diamine with an acryloyl or methacryloyl halide. These esters are used in the preparation of polymers which find their application as ion exchangers and catalysts of chemical reactions.
