The present invention comprises the use of an 8.9 cM region of human chromosome 18q disposed between polymorphic markers D18S68 and D18S979 or a fragment thereof for identifying at least one human gene, including mutated and polymorphic variants thereof, which is associated with mood disorders or related disorders. The invention also provides methods for determining the susceptibility of an individual to mood disorders or related disorders, comprising analysing a DNA sample for the presence of a trinucleotide repeat expansion in the above region. Polynucleotide sequences useful for detecting the presence of such trinucleotide repeat expansions are also provided.
La présente invention concerne l'utilisation d'une zone 8,9 cM du chromosome de l'homme 18q placé entre des marqueurs polymorphes D18S979 ou un fragment de ce dernier pour identifier au moins un gène humain, y compris des variantes polymorphes ou ayant subi une mutation, qui est associée à des troubles de l'humeur ou des troubles apparentés. L'invention concerne également des procédés pour déterminer la susceptibilité d'un individu à présenter des troubles de l'humeur ou des troubles apparentés, y compris des procédés permettant d'analyser un échantillon d'ADN pour détecter la présence de développement de séquences répétées de trinucléotides dans la zone susmentionnée. L'invention concerne également des séquences de polynucléotides permettant de détecter le développement des séquences répétées de trinucléotides.
