A mop is disclosed for the fastening to an end of a handle or broomstick. The mop includes a mount to which a number of relatively moveable, absorbent strips of a textile material are fastened essentially transverse to the axis of the broomstick. Moreover, a resilient means is provided which causes a spreading of the strips at least in the region of the mount. The mop has a fuller appearance when wet and, thus, is more aesthetically pleasing, and the resilient means together with the strips significantly reduce damage upon lateral impact of the mount with a solid object.
