Much has been written about the difficulties of assessment of site shear strength. It is strongly believed that evaluating of the shear strength in the field rather than in the laboratory has the advantage of testing the composite materials such as asphalt, concrete, and soil in their natural conditions. and also giving more reliable prediction to the mechanical characteristics. The field evaluation is less expensive and less time consuming. although carefully controlled laboratory tests may be theoretically more accurate in case of dealing with uniform materials, they are impractical for a quick assessment of the shear strength. Besides, in most cases they could not simulate the actual field conditions because of the heterogenous nature of the composite materials which are commonly used in the field in a wide range nowadays. One of the important example that can indicate the volubility of assessment of in-situ shear strength is the challenging problem of rutting of asphaltic concrete pavement under the effect of repeated heavy wheel loads and temperature changes. It should be noticed that most of the models that have been developed to solve that problem are failed. This is simply because those models did not deal with or in relation to the fundamental property that causes the problem. The above mentioned reasons have led to the invention of MORAL-3S " Multi- Originated Rheometer for Assessment of Latent Site Shear Strength". The invention provides a new procedure to evaluate the site shear strength of asphalt, concrete, and soil. The invented machine is inexpensive, simple, easy to operate, and has less weight. These will make it competitive alternative for industry. Much has been written about the difficulties of assessment of site shear strength.
