A B S T R A C T A mechanical transmission for transmitting load or motion from a driving to a driven member (such as a coupling, clutch or free wheel device) has a transmission element comprising a multiplicity of filament struts held together by a flexible foundation and inclined relatively to the direction of motion. the foundation engages the driving or driven member and the "free" ends of the struts engage with the other. the transmission element resembles card-clothing in its method of manufacture and the struts are preferably inclined at between 75° and 85° to the foundation.
