ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a means for both cooling the motor and the motor compartment of a lift truck. An impeller is rotatably mounted to the end of the lift motor. The impeller draws air through the motor and also from the opposite direction of the motor compartment. This design is equivalent to a double fan. The impeller is surrounded by a centrifugal blower shroud, or, cowling. The hot air drawn from the motor and the motor compartment is directed out of outlet vents or slots in the compartment wall adjacent the shroud exhaust opening. This exhausted air causes a reduction in pressure in the motor compartment. The reduced pressure causes the cooler, outside air to enter the compartment through inlet vents located in the far end of the compartment wall. The exhausting of the hot air from the compartment gives rise to a further lowering of the temperature, when the air pressure in the motor compartment is reduced. The reduced pressure increases the reduction of temperature by reducing windage, friction and overall motor power consumption. 17
