A motor drive unit for a cable drive system is provided herein. The drive unit includes a first subassembly including a first housing shell, a worm gear, and a bearing pin extending therefrom. It also includes a second subassembly, for connecting to the first subassembly, the second subassembly including a second housing shell, a worm wheel supported by the bearing pin and driven by the worm gear when the first and second sub- assemblies are connected. The worm wheel has a sheath portion extending therefrom. A cable drum is mounted on the extended sheath and is driven thereby. The housing shell of the second subassembly further includes an opening through which a free end of the extended sheath portion of the worm wheel extends. The free end thereof includes at least one hook element which positively engages edge portions of the opening so as to retain the worm wheel and cable drum against removal from the second housing shell.
