MOTOR HAVING STATIONARY SHAFT, AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLING IT Abstract of the Disclosure An electric motor having a stationary shaft (39) carrying two spaced-apart bearings (44, 45) rotatably supporting a rotor (42, 43). The shaft has an axial bore (55) communicating with a radial slot (56) in the shaft. An elongated locking member (48) extends from the bore, through the slot, and into operative engagement with one of the bearings. A plug (59) within the bore holds the locking member in place. A collar (49) surrounds the shaft in the region of the slot, the locking member fixing one end of the collar against said one of the bearings. A compression spring (50) sur- rounding the shaft presses against both the collar and the other bearings. The bore merges with the slot along an inclined surface (57) which guides one end of the elongated locking member through the slot as the locking member is advanced along the bore during assembly.
