A vehicle door assembly has an inner sheet metal layer (16) which presents a substantially U-shaped structure. The inner sheet metal layer includes a latch mounting surface and at least one hinge mounting surface. An outer, substantially planar, sheet metal layer (14) is attached to the inner sheet metal layer to form a cavity. A structural reinforcement member (30) is disposed in the cavity to reinforce the inner and outer sheet metal layers, including reinforcements (44A,B and 28A,B) for the latch and hinge mounting surfaces. A carrier assembly (60) is mounted to the structural reinforcement member, covering the U-shaped area, and a trim component (50) covers the carrier assembly. By incorporating the structural door member, the thickness of the inner and outer sheet metal layers can be reduced, for a net weight and reduced material cost savings.

L'invention concerne un ensemble de portière de véhicule comportant une couche de tôle intérieure (16) présentant une structure essentiellement en forme de U. Ladite couche de tôle intérieure comporte une surface de montage de verrou et au moins une surface de montage d'articulation. Une couche de tôle extérieure essentiellement plane (14) est attachée à la couche de tôle intérieure de manière à former une cavité. Un élément de renforcement structurel (30) est disposé dans la cavité afin de renforcer les couches de tôle intérieure et extérieure, et comprend également des renforts (44A, B et 28A, B) destinés aux surfaces de montage de verrou et d'articulation. Un ensemble support (60) est monté à l'élément de renforcement structurel de manière à couvrir la zone en forme de U, et un composant de garniture (50) couvre l'ensemble support. L'intégration de l'élément de portière structurel permet de réduire l'épaisseur des couches de tôle intérieure et extérieure de manière à obtenir une réduction du poids net et des coûts en matériel.
