A molded motor vehicle instrument panel (10) made of a thermoplastic material has an integral air bag deployment door (14) for a passenger side air bag (22) that is defined by a tear seam (16) and is normally retained by an integral flexible mounting/hinge flange (36) to a part of the vehicle structure (11) when the seam is torn by the inflating air bag and wherein this flange then bends to allow the door to swing open to allow deployment of the air bag retaining same to the vehicle structure as the door is then free of the instrument panel. At very low temperatures, a portion of the air bag door can break away from the mounting/hinge flange because of plastic embrittlement at these low temperatures and the high bending stresses encountered at this juncture. This separation of the broken door portion from the vehicle structure is prevented by a tethering hinge (50) that is formed of a strong flexible sheet material that spans this critical juncture between the mounting/hinge flange and door and remains flexible at these very cold temperature to retain the broken door portion to the vehicle structure.
Ce tableau de bord (10) pour véhicule à moteur, moulé dans un matériau thermoplastique, comprend un panneau (14) solidaire qui permet le déploiement d'un coussin gonflable (22) destiné au côté passager, est délimité par une couture (16) de déchirement et est normalement retenu, à l'aide d'un rebord (36) de montage/charnière solidaire et flexible, à une partie de la structure (11) du véhicule lorsque la couture se déchire sous l'effet du gonflement du coussin, le rebord se pliant alors pour permettre au panneau de s'ouvrir par basculement et au coussin gonflable de se déployer, tout en retenant le panneau à la structure du véhicule lorsque celui-ci est dégagé du tableau de bord. A des températures très basses, une portion du panneau peut se casser et se séparer du rebord de montage/charnière par suite de l'effritement du plastique à ces températures et des contraintes élevées de pliage rencontrées au niveau de cette jointure. On empêche la portion de panneau déchirée de se séparer de la structure du véhicule au moyen d'une charnière (50) d'amarrage, laquelle est formée dans un matériau en feuille flexible et résistant, enjambe la jointure critique entre le rebord de montage/charnière et le panneau, et reste flexible à ces températures très froides, afin de maintenir la portion de panneau déchirée attachée à la structure du véhicule.
