A cruise control (10) for vehicle having a throttle controller mounted to a handlebar (12) is provided. The cruise control (10) includes a throttle-pipe handle (14) having a throttle-pipe spur gear (36) attached thereto, a cruise control spur gear (42) coupled to the throttle-pipe spur gear (36), an electromagnetic brake/clutch device (66) coupled to the cruise control spur gear (42), an activation switch (20), and a control circuit (100). The cruise control spur gear (42) may be coupled to the throttle-pipe spur gear (36) via an intermediate spur gear (38). The control circuit (100) provides a control signal to activate the electromagnetic brake/clutch device (66) when the activation switch (20) is actuated. When activated, the electromagnetic brake/clutch device (66) prevents rotation of the throttle-pipe handle (14). When the braking system (118) of the motorcycle is activated, the control signal provided to the electromagnetic brake/clutch device (66) is removed, which deactivates the electromagnetic brake/clutch device (66), allowing free rotation of the throttle-pipe handle (14).
