A coordinate measuring device (10) comprises a housing (12) rotatively supported on a base (11) and mounting a vertical pillar (13) along which rides a carriage (14) engaged by a horizontally translating arm (15). A turret (18,19) at each end of the arm houses a rotating body (20,21) connected to a probe (22,23). The rotation of the base, the vertical movement of the carriage, the horizontal movement of the arm and the rotation of the probes are driven by motors (27,28,29,30) in the housing. The rotation of the motors are transmitted by a cable and pulley assembly to the arm and carriage. The cable (43) controlling the transversal movement of the arm has its opposite ends attached to the opposite extremity (16,17) of the arm, and is run respectively up and down the portion of the pillar above and below the carriage in order to maintain constant lengths and tension of the cables as the carriage moves up and down the pillar. The rotation of the probes and that of the base are coordinated to keep the probes at a constant angle in relation to the measured surface.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif de mesure de coordonnées (10) qui comprend un boîtier (12) supporté de manière rotative sur une base (11) et surmontant un pilier vertical (13) le long duquel circule un chariot (14) dans lequel s'insère un bras (15) effectuant des translations horizontales. Un barillet (18, 19) à chaque extrémité du bras loge un corps en rotation (20, 21) connecté à une sonde (22, 23). La rotation de la base, le mouvement vertical du chariot, le mouvement horizontal du bras et la rotation des sondes sont effectués par des moteurs (27, 28, 29, 30) dans le boîtier. La rotation des moteurs est transmise par un câble et un assemblage de poulies au bras et au chariot. Les extrémités opposées du câble (43) contrôlant le mouvement transversal du bras sont attachées à l'extrémité opposée (16, 17) du bras, et ce câble circule respectivement vers le haut et vers le bas de la partie du pilier ci-dessus et en dessous du chariot de sorte à maintenir constantes les longueurs et la tension des câbles pendant que le chariot se déplace vers le haut et vers le bas du pilier. La rotation des sondes et celle de la base sont coordonnées pour garder les sondes à un angle constant par rapport à la surface mesurée.
