A motorized readerboard includes two columns, a readerboard, opposed guide channels affixed to each of the columns, a plurality of wheels affixed to the readerboard, a hoist for moving the readerboard with respect to the columns, and at least one safety lock. At least one of the wheels is affixed to the readerboard opposite each of the guide channels and engages the guide channel. The safety lock prevents movement of the readerboard in at least one direction with respect to the columns.
