A granular mould flux for use in the continuous casting of steel, and particularly ultra low carbon steels, comprises refractory metal oxide, one or more fluxing agents, an expanding agent such as expandable graphite, expandable perlite or expandable vermiculite, carbon black, manganese dioxide and starch. The granules are preferably spherical granules of 0.1 mm to 1 mm in diameter. A preferred composition contains sodium carbonate and/or lithium carbonate which act binders in addition to being fluxing agents.
L'invention concerne un flux de moulage granulé destiné à être utilisé dans la fabrication de l'acier en coulée continue, en particulier celle des aciers à très mince teneur en carbone. Ce flux comprend un oxyde métallique réfractaire, un ou plusieurs fondants, un agent expansif tel que le graphite, la perlite ou la vermiculite expansible, du noir de carbone, du bioxyde de manganèse et de l'amidon. De préférence, on utilise des granulés sphériques ayant un diamètre compris entre 0,1 mm et 1 mm et une composition à base de carbonate de sodium et/ou de carbonate de lithium agissant non seulement comme des fondants, mais encore comme des liants.
