A mounting assembly (10) for releasably mounting an object such as a speaker onto a surface, such as a wall. The mounting assembly (10) comprises a first portion (11) which is adapted to be mounted onto the surface, the first portion (11) presenting a first plane (19). The mounting assembly also comprises a second portion (12) which is adapted to be fastened to the object, the second portion (12) presenting a second plane (25). A connection means (27) is provided for releasably connecting the second portion (12) to the first portion (11), in a connected condition, with the first (19) and second (25) planes engaged. The connection means (27) releasably connects the first (11) and second (12) portions by relative movement of the first (19) and second (25) planes towards each other, and then movement of the first (11) and second (12) portions relative to each other along the contacting planes (19, 25). The connection means (27) comprises one or more spigots (29) projecting from the first (11) or second (12) portion for engagement in a slotted aperture (31) in the other of the first (11) or second (12) portion.
