Retaining device (1) for a sensor (12) for mounting on a part having an opening, particularly on an outer part of a motor vehicle, with an endplate (3) which can be attached to an inner surface of the part and comprises an opening (5), a housing (6) adjacent to the endplate (3) for receiving at least part of the sensor, which comprises means (9, 10, 11) for securing the sensor in the housing (6), and with an additional member (2) which is mounted inside the opening (5) in the endplate (3) by means of releasable fixing means (7) and comprises a projection projecting outwards from the endplate (3), which can be brought into engagement with the opening in the part such that the opening (5) in the endplate (3) is centrally aligned with respect to the opening in the part.
