- 1 - ABSTRACT A mounting unit for motor vehicle sliding roofs, particularly for rigid sliding roofs, is to be fitted above a roof opening in the vehicle roof and has an assembly frame, on which is displaceable a cover closing the roof opening in the closed position and can be pivoted upwards with all its drive elements. The assembly frame and therefore the complete mounting unit is connected on one side to the vehicle roof by means of swivel bearings and can be locked on the other side to the vehicle roof by a locking mechanism. Thus, separately from the vehicle body, the mounting unit can be completely prefabricated in functionally tested manner and can be subsequently mounted easily on the vehicle roof. By unlocking the pivoting, it permits a rapid opening of the complete roof opening, which is advantageous for emergency escape purposes. By fitting the mounting unit above the roof opening to vehicle roof, the sliding roof construction in no way restricts the head movement freedom in the vehicle interior.
