ABSTRACT Movable bucket elevators for carrying bulk material are subject to loading forces caused by the feed motion (thrust motion) of the buckets and their chain guides. In order to reduce the loadings to a large degree and thus to increase the useful life of the elevator, there is provided in the lower zone of the elevator path a stationary (fixed) cylindrical casing and a rotary cutting head encircling the casing. The cutting head is provided with shovels adapted to cut the bulk material and bring it to the front of an opening in the casing where the material is scooped up by ascending buckets. As a result, the buckets have virtually a scooping function only.
