A movement detector particularly useful as an apnea monitor includes a piezoelectric crystal transducer, a supporting member on one side of the transducer, and a collector member on the apposite side of the transducer and having an effective area, as circumscribed by its outer edges, which is at least fifty times the surface area of the respective side of the transducer, for collecting the forces applied at that side of the transducer and for applying them to the transducer.
