ABSTRACT In the past, persons who were afflicted with the habit of thumb sucking or nail biting had to resort to putting vile tasting substances such as bitter alum on the fingers to remind them that they were doing something that they really did not want to do. The object of the present invention is to remind people that they are about to suck their thumb, bite their nails or some other action before they actually do it and to do so with an electronic device and so do away with the vile tasting concoctions that have been used in the past. In the present invention, a small battery powered monitoring device is worn about the neck. This device has a sensor which senses a changing magnetic field and it is activated by a magnetic wrist band or ring when the hand is brought up to approach the mouth. This actuates an audible alarm informing the person of his action and requires a reset button to be pressed to stop the alarm.
