A B S T R A C T The invention relates to mucopolysaccharide which have biological properties and which are obtained by the partial depolymerization of heparin by a chemical agent such as nitrous acid under controlled conditions. Under the reaction conditions of the invention mucopolysaccharides are obtained which possess a USP titer lower than that of heparin and a higher Yin-Wessler titer. These mucopolysaccharides can be used as antithrombic medicaments.
