ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A muffling device comprising an internally segmented main body narrowed at the body's ends with a widened midsection. The interior of the body is divided by a series of bell shaped walls extending from the body's midsection to define a first outer chamber surrounding a second inner chamber within the body's upper half, a third chamber extending between the midsection of the body, and a fourth inner chamber surrounded by a fifth outer chamber within the body's lower half. The first chamber communicates with the second chamber by an aperture in the wall separating the two chambers. The second chamber communicates with the fourth chamber by a central passage extending from the second chamber through the third chamber and into the fourth chamber. The fourth chamber communicates with the fifth chamber by an aperture in the wall separating the two chambers. The main body has an inlet passage that communicates with the first and second chambers and an outlet passage that communicates with the fourth and fifth chambers. The chambers serve to direct and contain the flow of gases while the third chamber contains sound deadening material.
