A muffler (20) for attenuating noise produced by a pneumatic device having limited clearance. The muffler (20) includes a housing (22), a base (24) and an acoustic absorption insert (100). The housing (22) defines an upstream end and a downstream end (34), with the downstream end (36) being closed. Further, the housing tapers from a maximum width of less than approximately 1.5 inches (38 mm) to the downstream end. The base (24) is secured to the housing at the upstream end and includes a tube (26) for directing airflow and sound waves into the housing. Finally, the acoustic absorption insert (100) is disposed within the housing and includes a web of fibers configured to absorb sound waves. The muffler can be utilized with a pneumatic valve having limited space available for receiving the muffler, providing noise attenuation with minimal back pressure.

L'invention concerne un silencieux (20) permettant d'atténuer le bruit produit par un dispositif pneumatique présentant un dégagement limité. Ledit silencieux (20) comporte un logement (22), une base (24) et un insert d'absorption phonique (100). Le logement (22), qui définit une extrémité amont (34) et une extrémité aval (36) fermée, se termine en pointe pour atteindre une largeur maximale de moins de 1,5 pouces environ (38 mm) à l'extrémité aval. La base (24) fixée au logement au niveau de l'extrémité aval comporte un tube (26) permettant de diriger le flux d'air et les ondes sonores dans le logement. L'insert d'absorption phonique (100) placé à l'intérieur du logement contient un tissu de fibres conçu pour pouvoir absorber les ondes sonores. Ledit silencieux, qui peut être utilisé avec une soupape pneumatique disposant d'un espace limité pour le recevoir, permet de réduire le bruit ainsi que les contre-pressions.
