A multiple compartment receptacle is used for the separate storage of separable items, for example different colours of laundry or different materials for recycling. The receptacle is a rectangular housing with an open top closed with a hinged lid and two access openings in the ends closed with respective door panels. The interior of the receptacle is divided into compartments by a set of partitions including two inclined partitions sloping downward from the top of the compartment at the ends towards the center. This provides a center compartment above the inclined partitions and two end compartments below the inclined partitions. Each compartment is preferably lined with a removable bag.
